What I learned running from Buffalo to Brooklyn with friends

Hey Reader ,

I spent last weekend in a van running 460+ miles from Buffalo to Brooklyn, NY with eleven other friends. Kind of insane, but also the type of adventure that reminds me that it's pretty dang awesome to be surrounded by friends who show up for each other and themselves in so many ways.

There were highs and lows, but so many laughs. And lots of snacks, of course. This weekend was a perfect reminder of the duality of running (and life, really): equal parts grit and pure, unserious fun.

Other things I learned on this journey:

  • Always pack a raincoat because then it won’t rain
  • Your mind will fail you before your body does— having the right people around you to keep you working towards a goal is key
  • Getting in and out of the third row of a mini-van in the midst of running 38+ miles may be harder than running said miles
  • Napping under a tree with a cool breeze is the most elite form of relaxation
  • Carbs will forever be queen
  • The perfect playlist does exist
  • Friendship is the greatest gift of all
